The Voice of the Glaciers

The Voice of the Glaciers
Status: Competition project
Location: Svalbard; Spitsbergen
Year: 2019

Global warming is a major problem of our time, the indicator of which is the Svalbard. Melting of glaciers is accompanied by vital sounds, music, the end of which may be their disappearance. Svalbard will be visited by the musician - the conductor between the problem and humanity, who should interpret the melody of the glacier into a musical composition.
Over the course of 100 years, musicians will come to the Islands of Svalbard to listen to the voices of the remaining glaciers and form an orchestra scattered throughout the archipelago.

By creating a joint musical work, but being in different parts of the islands, they will become one inseparable chain in which each link will depend on the other, striving to create a harmony of voices of the glaciers, symbolizing the need for joint efforts of the whole world to solve the problem of climate change.
A piece of music that sounds in unison with melting glaciers will be the main indicator of global warming. Changing and developing, it will not be repeated, showing the irreversibility of process.

One time a season the archipelago orchestra will unite, and give a public concert with online broadcast around the world. Records of the performances will be saved in the repository with manuscripts on the archipelago, being a message for future generations.
Musicians of the world will be able to become involved in this process, giving concerts in different parts of the world.

We are confident that art will be a vital part in our attitude to nature.
